Enriched Bread Artists

Member's bio: Valerie P. Noftle

Valerie Noftle’s interest in, and love of, photography began with her first photo shoot; Leonard Cohen in concert in London, Ontario in 1993. Fast forward three graduate degrees, motherhood and a distinguished public service career later, and Noftle now works full-time out of her Ottawa studio ‘letting the light in.’

With a focus on relationship-building through storytelling, Noftle’s artistic practice seeks to facilitate communication, preserve memory and increase understanding among different peoples by creating visual bridges across cultures. Weaving photographic images and video into her practice, Noftle’s artwork represents both theory and method and acts to illustrate how behavior or actions contribute to our collective understanding by addressing issues of race, identity and history. With a focus on visual storytelling, Noftle seeks to build community across cultures with an emphasis on lived experiences, giving voice to peoples who might otherwise remain voiceless. Noftle has exhibited in numerous collective and solo shows beginning in 1998 to present. Her artwork can be found in public and private collections both at home and abroad.
