Member's bio: Gillian King

Gillian King is a painter, curator, and art educator from Winnipeg, Manitoba and recent MFA Graduate from the University of Ottawa (2016). King is the recipient of the RBC Emerging Artist Award 2017 as well as the 2017 Nancy Petry Award which will fund her to live and work in Europe in late 2017/18.

She has shown in galleries nationally and internationally and has completed residencies at The Banff Centre (Banff, Ab) and Sparkbox Studios (Picton, On). Most recently, King is the Ontario representative in the Robert McLaughlin Gallery's 50th Anniversary Exhibition, 'Ab NEXT' (Oshawa, On / April 29 - Sept 3, 2017) featuring five emerging abstract painters from across Canada. She has exhibited her work at La Maison des Artistes (Winnipeg, Mb, 2017), University of Marinette Wisconsin (2017),  PDA Projects (Ottawa, On, 2016), and Karsh-Masson Gallery (Ottawa, On) for the City of Ottawa Annual Acquisitions Exhibition 'Souvenirs' (November, 2016) as well as 'The Full Catastrophe' (March, 2016). King also exhibited a solo show entitled, Becoming Animal, at the Ottawa Art Gallery in late 2016.
