Member's bio: Cindy Stelmackowich
Cindy Stelmackowich is an Ottawa-based artist, writer, and teacher. Born in Saskatchewan, Stelmackowich moved to Ottawa to pursue an M.A. after completing undergraduate degrees at the University of Saskatchewan. While completing a Ph.D. and teaching at Carleton University, her artwork and academic research has focused on themes related to medical science.
Cindy has had numerous solo exhibitions in both Canada and the U.S. and has received grants from the Canada Council, the Ontario Arts Council, and the City of Ottawa. In 2009 she received the Mid-Career Artist Award from the Council for the Arts in Ottawa. Her artworks are in the collection of the Canada Council Art Bank, The City of Ottawa, The Ottawa Art Gallery, York University, The National Gallery Library Collection, as well as private collections.
Cindy's work will be featured in the following galleries in 2009-2011: The Mount Saint Vincent Art Gallery (Halifax), Bilton Contemporary (Red Deer), I.P.S. Gallery (Montreal), The City Hall Art Gallery (Ottawa), The Robert McLaughlin Gallery (Oshawa), Esplanade Art Gallery (Medicine Hat), Patrick Mikhail Gallery (Ottawa), the Toronto International Art Fair (Toronto) and Canada Science and Technology Museum (Ottawa).
