DOORS OPEN OTTAWA: HYBRID EDITION
This year Doors Open is celebrating 20 years of paying homage to Ottawa’s built heritage, but with this years’ new hybrid format, building owners and visitors will have the choice of participating virtually or in person — as long as COVID-19 allows it. That’s right… the event is returning to a live, in-person format but with the added bonus of enhanced virtual content.
EBA will once again be participating in Doors Open Ottawa. Enriched Bread Artists (EBA) is a not-for-profit collective of visual artists working in a range of media and techniques. The collective was originally formed in 1992 by graduates of the University of Ottawa looking for studio space and an artistic community beyond university. The group’s name refers to the former bread factory where the co-operatively run studios are located. Designed by Sydney Comber, a dairy and bakery specialist, the Standard Bread bakery was built in 1924. It was founded by Cecil Morrison and Dick Lamothe.
Designated a heritage site by the City of Ottawa in 2020, the The Standard Bread Company building is one of the few remaining light-industrial buildings left in Ottawa. Within the next one to two years this building will be part of a major new construction and renovation on this site. The building will be renovated but will retain its unique heritage architecture. This may be the last opportunity to look inside this building before that renovation takes place.
During Doors Open Ottawa, we will be offering both a virtual tour and an in person event. EBA will be open to the public both Saturday June 4th and Sunday June 5th. Please visit to not only view inside this historical building but also to view some of the work that member Artists would like to share with you.
