Svetlana Swinimer presents: ITALY – for Nikolai Piri Pai, a travelogue in paintings
There will be a dance performance by Wendy Morrell at 2pm
Nikolai Piri Pai is Svetlana Swinimer’s new grandson, a new baby for her son and daughter-in-law, who live in Turin, Italy. Little Nikolai will be baptized there, on June 30th. Swinimer would have loved to attend, but travelling that far isn’t always possible. She decided to mark the day here in Ottawa with an exhibition of a series of oil paintings, painted ten years ago when she visited a friend.
Svetlana Swinimer is a long-time member of the EBA. Born in Russia, Swinimer began her artistic career as a painter, and taught oil painting for six years at Moscow University. In 1975 she moved to Ottawa and took numerous courses on sculpture, watercolor, and art criticism at the Ottawa School of Art. Currently, she works in many different media, including sculpture and video. As this exhibition shows, however, Swinimer often returns to her first love, oil painting.
Wendy Morrell’s lifelong love of dance as an expression of the sacred in mind, body and soul resulted in diverse dance studies (Modern, Improv, African, Hawaiian, Tibetan, etc). She has been Director of International Sacred Dance Festivals, facilitator of Dance Workshops and is the Artistic Director of a Community Dance Group—Moving Mysteries—in Ottawa.
