Gayle Kells examines personal and cultural identity, the female form, and issues concerning the environment.  Her work has included the use of recycled plastic bags, vintage clothing and, most recently, ink to create large-scale drawings using rhythmic patterns reminiscent of Jacobean tapestry, lace work, crochet and other embroidery techniques. Kells holds a BFA from the University of Ottawa (1995) and a MA in Canadian Studies from Carleton University (1997). Her work is held in private and public collections, including the City of Ottawa and the Governor General’s Residence, and she has received professional grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the City of Ottawa.
