Yvonne Wiegers
Yvonne Wiegers’ current body of paintings and drawings are hand drawn involving thousands of small shapes that assert their presence by their sheer quantity or energetic lines compressed into large tangled masses. Her work investigates ideas of presence, accumulation and proliferation. Her research centers on themes of population, individuality, swarm behavior, biodiversity, epigenetics, psychology, feminist theory and the idea of infinity.
Wiegers has exhibited in Canada, United States, Sri Lanka and Russia. Her work is in public and private collections. She has a B.A. (University of Guelph) and a MFA (University of Calgary) garnering the department’s nomination for the Governor General’s Medal.
